Department of Naval Architecture

Department of Naval Architecture is a recently established department and was formed in the year 2018. Both Postgraduate & Undergraduate programs in the field of Naval Architecture are being offered. A naval architect is a professional engineer who is responsible for the design, classification, survey, construction, and repair of both commercial and military ships including yachts, powerboats, fishing boats, barges, warships, cruise ships, ice breakers, submersibles, submarines and offshore structures. The course curriculum has been designed to provide knowledge in all core areas of field of Naval Architecture such as Marine Hydrodynamics, Marine Structure and Advanced Marine Dynamics. Students also undertake a comprehensive ship design exercise as a group project to learn to carryout concept studies in ship designing. During design exercise, special emphasis is given on inculcating interpersonal and team skills so that they may be easily integrated into industrial ship design teams.

1. Engineering Knowledge An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems
2. Problem Analysis An ability to identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
3. Design/Development of solutions An ability to design solutions for complex engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Investigation An ability to investigate complex engineering problems in a methodical way including literature survey, design and conduct of experiments, analysis and interpretation of experimental data, and synthesis of information to derive valid conclusions.
5. Modern Tool usage An ability to create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modeling, to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
6. The Engineer & society An ability to apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice and solution to complex engineering problems.

Dr Zeeshan Riaz​

The Department of Naval Architecture was established in September 2018 with the commencement of MS (Naval Architecture) while the undergraduate programme has been commenced with effect from Fall 2020. The goal of the department is to provide students with high-quality engineering education along with a focus on the development of their interpersonal skills. Each one of our faculty members is committed to impart quality education through guest lectures, seminars, workshops, and industrial visits. We are a team of highly qualified faculty with solid field experience. We strive to ensure that all our students have strong academic skills, paired with strong practical and leadership skills. We believe that emphasising these areas will make our students well qualified to take leadership roles in the future.

VISION & MISSION

To nurture and develop the abilities of young minds in the field of ship designing. The curriculum is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills in naval architecture theory, analysis and design procedures, as applied to naval and merchant ships, so that students may be easily integrated into industrial ship design teams. The Naval Architects graduated from this program can meet real time challenges of the industry by demonstrating their competencies in learned methodologies and skills while appreciating the global and societal impact of the discipline through exposure of contemporary issues.
